Fond farewell!

Text Box: The April Trustee meeting was the time to say “Goodbye, God bless and thank you” to John Aldis as he officially retired as Chairman of the Trustees.  Chaplains and Street Angels were represented too at his leaving lunch which marked the end of a very special time for the chaplaincy.  John reflected “The past 3 years or more have been exciting as we have seen the Chaplaincy established and the growth of the chaplaincy team.   Recently, awards and public recognition have been given from the Town and the County.  Many other towns have sought our advice about starting Town Centre Chaplaincies elsewhere.  Above all, though, this has been a work of God and a mark of His Kingdom. Over the years, first as leader and then as Chairman, it has been wonderful to see Christ fulfilling His promise “Behold I set before you an open door (Revelation 3v8)”. This has been our experience from the beginning, and as I retire and move away this is my confidence for the future of the Chaplaincy as it continues in serving the Heart of our town.”  Alan Smith, pictured left with John, takes on the role of Chairman.  There are other changes in the Trustee team but more of this next time!  God has graciously answered our prayers.

Fairtrade Fortnight

The Chaplaincy was well represented at the launch of Fairtrade Fortnight in the Harlequin Centre during March.  Graham Taylor, former England and Watford football manager(pictured right with John Aldis and Dorothy Thornhill) said that during his travels all over the world he had been affected by seeing poverty firsthand and that was why he supported the Fairtrade Movement.

Text Box: Another new chaplain comes on board

We are delighted that Matt Penny, House Manager at Beechen Grove Baptist Church, has been appointed as chaplain to the Palace Theatre. Matt will build on the chaplaincy relationship that Richard has established there and we are glad to have his talents added to the team.

Text Box: A night in the life of a Street Angel

We promised you that every month you would

be able to read an article from one of our chaplains  or a Street Angel to find out about their experiences. This month Alan Waller, who is a new Street Angel, shares about his first night out on the street. It is, however, a substantial account that we don’t want to edit too much so it will be available separately on another page soon.  Check back next week!
